The temperature has dropped (considerably) and across the capital city, Londoners are clutching on their hot water bottles for dear life. It can only mean one thing: winter is here, and the snow could be on its way too.
It’s already snowing up in the north east of England and down in the south west, but when exactly is it going to flurry its way to the capital? Well, I have some news (good or bad, depending on how you feel about snow): the first London snowflakes of winter are set to fall this weekend, in the early hours of Sunday, December 3, according to the BBC weather forecast. (*Shrieks with childlike excitement*).
Don’t start planning your snow day just yet, though. Knowing London, it’s not exactly going to be Christmas postcard-worthy. I imagine it’s going to be a slightly sad swirl of snow that will melt into a pile of slush the moment it hits the ground. But still – snow!
With temperatures plunging below freezing this week, Sadiq Khan (Mayor of London) has activated the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol and opened emergency accommodation for those sleeping rough in the capital city.
In regards to the potential of snowfall in the capital for the rest of December? It’s hard to say, at the moment. According to the latest betting odds, there is only an 8% chance of snow in London on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, our good pals up in Edinburgh and Glasgow have a 33.3% chance of an actual White Christmas. We’re not jealous at all…
